Edison - Rivendale - Lawn - Lawnwood and Humbolt Park

Welcome on the blog for the fifth update. After Bridgeport district, Washington District,  Monroe district and Downtown districts, let me show you Lawn and Lawnwood. Areas we are talking about are highlighted on the map.

The district of Lawnwood is a medium density residential and commercial districts. It was one of the districts of origin. The most important site in the area is the Lawnwood Port, built in 1959 a commercial and transit port on the Norridge Lake, however, an major part of the coast has been saved. Near Garfield Park are Millennium Station, Amatrak intercities trains stop, and the Shelby County General Hospital, the city's greatest medical center.

The district of Lawn is a high-medium density district. It's house of commercials buildings, offices and residential complexes. It's contain one of most important park in the city, the Humbolt Park (19.4 ha), in front of the Norridge Lake, providing a great view. There is also the Shelby Count Court Office, on Foster Street and Norridge Drive. It will describe on the Landmarks post, in a near future!

Monroe - Avondale - Rivendale - Edison and Jefferson Park 

Welcome on the blog for the fourth update. After Bridgeport district,Washington District, and Monroe district, let me show you Rivendale and Edison districts. Areas we are talking about are highlighted on the map. 

Along the LaSalle Avenue are the city mains services. Located in the north of LaSalle Avenue, on Lexington Avenue and Clark Avenue is the Union Station, city most important train station. If it's serves only by Metras commuters trains, this is the station that has the most attendance per day. The lines are buried from entering the city.

At the junction of Grand Boulevard and LaSalle avenue is Jefferson Park, the city oldest park in size of 2.8 ha. Rivendale and Edison west parts, also called "Higher Town" or "Downtown" are commercials, offices and highest density districts. The east parts, along Norridge Lake, "Lower Town" are smaller but will describe in another entry.

Please note that each important building will be described in a specific entry called landmarks. Dear readers, understand that i'm working a lot (too much!) in this frakin' period of holidays and i'm sorry if some entries (almost all the right menu - huhu) are missing or incomplete! But hope that you like this city journal anyway... :D

Lincoln Square - Monroe - Hyde Park and State Congress

Welcome on the blog for the third update. After Bridgeport district and Washington District, let me show you Lincoln Square and Monroe district. Areas we are talking about are highlighted on the map. 

The Line 7 of the CTA Elevated Metro crosses the district in two parts, on Divison Street.Built in 1913, the original viaduct wasn't replaced but was rehabilitated in 1984. More information in the Subway's post or Subway's Diagram. 

Monroe is a residential district in low density except near Hyde Park where middle-density commercial and offices grew. Hyde Park is one of biggest park of the city. Into the 15.4 ha are the City Library and Hyde Air Circle, a modern Ferris Weel build like the original (1893).

Lincoln Square is a office high density district with some residential and commercial buildings. The Craftstoke Federal Building was started in 1898 and finished in 1905 and is the home of the Illinois State Congress. The building have 16 floors of wich 8 in his massive dome. More than 2'000'000 USD have been give by a private donator to rehabilitation and the classical style decoration in 1994.

The notable skyscraper behind the Federal Building is the Legacy Tower, built between 2007 and 2009. This is a 72 floors building, located along the Grand Boulevard and Eisenhower Avenue near 36th street. Note that the construction include 3.800 square meter for the School of the Art Institute of Craftstoke.

Washington Heights - Avondale - Soldier Field Stadium and Irving Park

Welcome on the blog for this second update. After Bridgeport district, let me show you Washington Heights and Avondale district, with Soldier Field Stadium and Irving Park. Areas we are talking about are highlighted on the map.

Washington Heights district is a residential district, built on the original site of 1625. Except a few buildings and hotels near the stadium, it's a low density neighborhood occuped by a middle-class population. The Soldier Field Stadium was build in 2003 on the old Municipal Grant Park Stadium (build in 1924) for a cost of 632 million USD. The home of Craftstoke Bears (NFL) has a capacity of 61'500 people.

Avondale disctrict is a residential district too, but near the Grand Boulevard are middle-density buildings. The Irving Park is the biggest park of this update : 7.4 ha (Ilk Goove Park 5.6 ha and Brougthon Park 4.8 ha). Into Ilk Goove Park is the Craftstoke Naval History Museum.

City Journal - Entry 1

Bridgeport - Canal Avenue - Norridge Drive and Marina

Welcome on the official site of the City of Craftstoke, Illinois, for this first city journal update. I'll try to describe the neighborhood as best I can, because I'm not a native english speaker. The district in question is highlighted in dark red on the minimap.

Craftstoke since it's founding has a long history as a logistics center, beginning with the traffic generated by the fur trade and the transit of timber and farm produce from the Midwest to the eastern cities.

This part of the port was built in 1848 when the Ridge Side Canal was dug between the east and the west part of the Norridge Lake. Since 1959, the commercial and transit port is located on Lawnwood and Bridgeport as been transformed like a leisure marina.
